Here's a screen shot of the Minimum temperatures since midnight. Boyne Mountain has a Davis station and reports through the NWS CWOP (Citizen Weather Observing Program). Also, some surrounding sites. Of course, live across US-131 from the Mountain. 

This was interesting, and what makes it even more interesting is that Saturday night, the blower on the furnace quit. So we have been running our water to keep the pipes from freezing and using my old keresene heater, an electric heater and the oven to warm the place. Of course, at night it is not wise to allow the flames to burn in such things. So, off they go. This morning indoor/outdoor thermometer read 38F. It is now up to 50F in the living room. The bedroom with the electric heater was nice and cozy. So now I have to call the furnace dude.

Yes, that bright orb in the sky is peeking through the clouds here in Boyne Falls. We are in what meteorologists call a "dry slot." Looking at the radar, you can see that the precipitation is now off to the east, with a little located with the low pressure area to the west. some of this might fill in as the temperatures rise from the sunshine today and things become unstable. However, I don't have all the tools to do this with any precision or accuracy from home, so it is just a guess. However, it looks like the bulk of the precipitation has finished for now. Go out an enjoy!

We got a mix of sleet and snow this morning, and it looks like a little more heading towards us. The bright yellow areas on the radar image this morning, usually mean that sleet is mixed in, becuase it reflects more of the radar's imagery back at us. This has been a decent storm, although I haven't seen some of the higher winds, but that typical for my place with an east wind. We are pretty protected from that direction.

If I could loop this picture, you would see that the as the snow appears on the edge of the radar, it disappears as it gets closer. This means that the snow in the clouds isn't falling, or is evaporating on the way down. Based on where the edge of the snow is only getting to about 8000ft. The dry air still needs to be overcome. That will happen tonight when the moisture with the storm gets closer. Since I'm off the next couple of days, I'll be up for a while tonight to update as needed. Currently, in Boyne Falls, you can still see the moon through the clouds.

Just to let you all know that there is Lake Effect snow affecting the region. Here in Boyne Falls, the snow flakes are small at the moment, which means that the accumulation won't be much. However, in the "big snow band"  near Kalkaska, there could be larger flakes from the processes that produce lake effect snow. Watch what is happening. The big thing to watch is visibility. Small or large flakes, if there is a lot of them, it will hamper visibility, especially at night.
